For many people live heart rhythm disorders like atrial fibrillation medications alone will not be able to convert the abnormal rhythm into a regular normal heartbeat. For such people, a procedure called cardioversion or electrical cardioversion may be necessary. During the cardioversion, after appropriate sedation, a machine with defibrillator pads is used to send electrical energy to the heart muscle to restore normal rhythm, allowing the heart to pump more effectively. Dr. Bokhari can perform cardioversions on an outpatient basis.
